MAE Department celebrates student achievements at Undergraduate Research Conference

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering is thrilled to announce the winners of its 19th annual Undergraduate Research Conference at Missouri S&T this April. The conference showcased a range of innovative research projects presented by students through both oral presentations and posters. This year, the spotlight shone brightly on junior Allie Dingfield, senior Joshua Gary, and senior Henry Tien, whose exceptional research contributions set new standards of excellence within the engineering community.

Allie Dingfield, a junior in mechanical engineering from Blair, Nebraska, clinched the first-place position in Engineering in the oral category with her insightful research on “Density Fluctuations Measurements in Supersonic Flow”. Supervised by Dr. Davide Viganò, her work paves the way for innovative advancements in aerospace engineering, showcasing the high caliber of research fostered at Missouri S&T. Meanwhile, Joshua Gary, a senior in aerospace engineering from Lake St. Louis, Missouri, secured the third-place spot in the oral category with his pioneering project, “New Testing Capabilities of the S&T Supersonic Tunnel”. Also mentored by Dr. Viganò, Gary’s research enhances the testing capabilities within the aerospace field, contributing significantly to the industry’s future developments. Additionally, Henry Tien, a senior in mechanical engineering from Lee’s Summit, Missouri, won first place in the poster category for his project on “Development of Perturbation Device for pHHI Research,” advised by Dr. Yun Seong Song, demonstrating a strong focus on improving human-machine interaction technologies.

These achievements reflect the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering’s ongoing commitment to pushing the boundaries of scientific knowledge and engineering practice. For more details about the conference and other winners, please visit Missouri S&T’s website.
