Dr. Phillip Mulligan appointed as director of the Product Innovation and Creativity Center

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering is pleased to announce that Dr. Phillip Mulligan has been appointed as the new Director of the Product Innovation and Creativity Center (PICC), following a faculty vote in favor of his nomination. Dr. Mulligan’s appointment has also received endorsement from the donor, in accordance with the terms of the endowment.

Dr. Mulligan is an Assistant Professor in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering department at Missouri University of Science and Technology. He earned his B.S. in Mining Engineering, as well as his M.S. and Ph.D. in Explosives Engineering. His research focuses on Engineering Design and product innovation, as well as energetic material, ballistics, force protection, and energetic system design.

Prior to joining the MAE department in August 2021, Dr. Mulligan served as an Assistant Research Professor in the Geosciences and Geological and Petroleum Engineering department at Missouri S&T. He has industry experience as an Explosives Engineer at Corvid Technologies and currently serves as president of Dagaz Technologies.

The Product Innovation and Creativity Center, located in Toomey Hall, is dedicated to enhancing students’ leadership, teamwork, and communication skills through real-world, hands-on engineering design projects. The center features state-of-the-art facilities, including 3D print and rapid prototyping laboratories, multimedia conferencing and presentation rooms, and advanced computer-aided design and engineering facilities.

Dr. Mulligan’s diverse background and expertise make him well-suited to lead the PICC in fostering innovation and creativity within the university community.
